Altera's Stratix III FPGA Wins 2008 DesignVision Award
Altera's High-End FPGA Family Recognized for Its Innovative Programmable Power Technology, Selectable Core Voltage and DDR3 Memory Interface

San Jose, Calif., February 6, 2008  Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced its Stratix® III FPGAs were presented with the International Engineering Consortium's (IEC) DesignVision Award in the Semiconductor and IC category. Stratix III FPGAs were recognized by the IEC for their unique and innovative architecture, which enables Altera to deliver the industry's highest performance and lowest power high-end FPGAs. The award-winning devices were also recognized for their DDR3 memory interface, which offers memory performance speeds in excess of 1067 Mbps. Altera was presented with the DesignVision Award at a ceremony held at the Santa Clara Convention Center during DesignCon 2008.

Started in 2005, the IEC's DesignVision Award recognizes technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the industry. DesignVision Award candidates are judged based on innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits and value to society.

A key architectural innovation of Altera® Stratix III FPGAs is their power reduction capability, which includes Programmable Power Technology and Selectable Core Voltage. With these innovations, Altera is able to lower the devices'total power consumption by up to 50 percent, when compared to previous-generation high-end FPGAs. Stratix III FPGAs also offer the highest performance, lowest power I/Os with industry-leading signal integrity. These innovations enable Stratix III FPGAs to offer DDR3 memory interface speeds in excess of 1067 Mbps, providing a 33 percent advantage in memory performance over competing FPGA solutions.
